Child and Adolescent Services: Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment (IIBHT)

Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment (IIBHT)

IIBHT is Lifeways’ highest level of outpatient mental health treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults (up to age 20) and is designed to help families who need more support and services than traditional outpatient treatment. IIBHT services are tailored to meet the individual needs of the child and family and include 4-6 hours of intensive services per week at times and places that work best for the family. IIBHT provides training and 24/7 support to help families gain skill in managing and preventing a mental health crisis. Active participation by caregivers and/or other natural supports are key to treatment success.

Here are some key points about IIBHT:

  • Oregon Health Plan enrolled or eligible.
  • experiencing significant safety risks
  • at risk for out-of-home placement
  • transitioning home from out-of-home treatment or placement

Methods and Formats:

  • Families work collaboratively with a qualified mental health professional (QMHP) to develop a treatment plan recommending 4-6 hours of services per week as deemed medically necessary and can include:
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Peer support (youth and/or family partner)
  • Skill coaching (individual and/or group)
  • Medication management
  • 24/7 proactive crisis and de-escalation support
  • Intensive care coordination

Who Can Benefit:

  • Children and Youth: IIBHT is tailored to address the specific mental health challenges being experienced by a child or youth, enhancing life and coping skills key to positive development.
  • Caregivers: IIBHT promotes caregiver skill and confidence in supporting the mental health needs of their children.
